I was ready to announce the new hard-drive dead and seek replacement when accidentally enough, I came across this thread today which assured me to try hot-plugging the port. But my neighbors often ask for help with their PC issues, and I often find that their hard drives are damaged, most probably because of electricity issues. AHCI SATA drivers and AHCI capable drives allow commands from the SATA command set that cannot be executed in IDE mode, to be used. Why it has taken so long to become accepted in the PC industry, I don't understand. (Fear of legacy product incompatibility is probably the main one.

The next stage is the SATA controller must support TRIM pass-through, I haven't heard of any SATA controller that doesn't. Music, video etc... Hddscan Trim enabled, the same happens when trying to intall fresh os on it. After disconnecting the new HDD from its port and rebooting, everything would load normally.

Apparently there are problems with nVidia's SATA drivers. I wanted all the drive space dedicated to it.
It's also important to note here that disk I/O can happen even though you aren't explicitly accessing any files on disk.
