If the SVCHOST thing isn't a virus, at least you got a really excellent malware program to supplement your virus scanner. this worked for me. The Windows Update dialogue box shows 226 important updates are available and ready to be installed. Several functions may not work. After I took all the important - necessary updates I needed , I have disabled the windows update service and I will check the updates time to time by myself. I was also baffled by this so I searched the internet and the found the answer. I wasn't initially able to run the troubleshooter because the first task it runs is to check for updates, and my system seemed to hang. If it's not apparent from the name and the description of the service, enter the process name in Google and do a search for it. Subscription to our website is free. The secret is to install the LATEST Cumulative Security Update for your version of Internet Explorer. Don't expect any response soon - I've (I hope) finished with the XP and W7 system resetup's - well for a month at least. Did the trick. Thank you so much!
