I did the force quit and reboot. Tried again with a bootable USB and then again with the downloaded "Install Yosemite" file from App store. It's been over 14 hours and cmdL does nothing. I really need step-by-step instructions.

I think it's just installed it. check my blog Got stuck half way, so I went to bed and just let it sit, hoping it would eventually complete. Their netbooks run as slow as Vista. if it still doesn't, shut the computer off, and reset the BIOS removing the battery and wait 10 minutes before putting it back on.
